AV Society stands for Autonomous Vehicle Society. The research project is actually called "The Societal Readiness Index for Shared Autonomy", or SRISA, but that's a very long name.

AVsociety.org is where we collect and publish the results from SRISA, as well as related research. In short, this project has the goal of making sustainable, on-demand, and self-driving mobility (especially public transit!) a key part of the society of the future.

Great question! Vinnova, the research and innovation agency of Sweden, provides the bulk of the financing. Additional money was provided by Keolis, a multinational public transit operator with numerous autonomous vehicle projects around the world. With their assistance, much of our data is collected in France, Sweden, and Australia.
